Title: Factsheets Chlorinated Paraffins (CPs).
Publication Type: Factsheets
Year of Publication: 2023
Abstract: Chlorinated paraffins (CPs) are mixtures of polychlorinated n-alkanes, that are widely used as flame retardants, plasticizers, adhesives and sealants. There are three types of CPs; Short Chain Chlorinated Paraffins (SCCPs), Medium Chain Chlorinated Paraffins (MCCPs) and Long Chain Chlorinated Paraffins (LCCPs). SCCPs are listed as Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in Annex A of the Stockholm Convention due to high PBT properties, whereas discussion on MCCPs for listing in the Annex A of the Stockholm Convention is ongoing. Since these chemicals have several health impacts on human exposure, hence production and usage has been restricted in different parts of the world except India. Currently, there is no regulatory framework on CPs in India.
