Stakeholders meeting on Chemicals in Textile (28 March, 2023)

Toxics Link organized a stakeholder meeting on “Chemicals in Textiles” on 28th March 2023 at Courtyard by Marriott, Ahmedabad. The meeting intended to initiate a discussion on reducing the net chemical consumption in the textile sector, and also reducing the net discharge to the environment. It provided a platform to discuss and develop a roadmap to address this issue. It successfully provided a platform to discuss and develop a roadmap to address this issue.

The meeting was graced by textile experts, policy experts, state pollution control board officials, industry personnel and researchers. It included two sessions with speakers who discussed about concerns and challenges of textile supply chain and global regulations on chemicals in textiles. The major points of discussion were hazardous chemicals present in textiles, input chemical management, Scenario on chemicals in India and global developments on chemicals in textiles.

The meeting emphasized the need to phase out hazardous chemicals from textiles in India, in line with global regulations. It called for collaboration between different stakeholders, including government bodies, industries, researchers and the consumers, to implement strategies for restricting and phasing out toxic chemical usage in textiles.
