Abstract:India is a signatory to Stockholm convention on POPs and ratified twelve POPs in 2006 and developed an action plan to eliminate the twelve POPs. Moreover, recently the Ministry of Environment – Forest and Climate Change of India (the MoEF&CC) has ratified additional 7 POPs with an agenda to eliminate these POPs. The country has established a Regulation of Persistent Organic Pollutants Rules, which entered into force on March 8, 2019. The regulation prohibits the manufacture, trade, use, import and export of the following seven POPs:

·Chlordecone;

·Hexabromobiphenyl;

·Hexabromodiphenyl ether and heptabromodiphenyl ether (commercial octa-BDE);

·Tetrabromodiphenyl ether and pentabromodiphenyl ether (commercial penta-BDE);

·Pentachlorobenzene;

·Hexabromocyclododecane; and

·Hexachlorobutadine
