Abstract:Toxics Link conducted the study with the objective of determining the presence of microplastics in sugar and salt products available in Indian markets. To test the presence of microplastics, ten salt and five sugar samples, both branded and unbranded, were purchased online and from local markets for the lab test. Microplastics of different sizes and forms were found in all salt and sugar samples. The purpose of the study was to bring into focus microplastics as food contaminants and trigger possible policy actions and research on possible technological interventions to reduce the exposure risks.
