Abstract:This compliance monitoring report presents new data on the total lead content in solvent-based paints available in Indian markets for home use. It also presents background information on why the use of lead paint is a source of serious concern, especially for children’s health; a review of national policy frameworks that are in place to ban or restrict the manufacture, import, export, sale, and use of lead in paints; and strongly underlines the need to strengthen compliance monitoring and stringent enforcement of regulations on lead content in paints in India.
