BPA in THERMALPAPER

Title: BPA in THERMALPAPER
Publication Type: Research Reports
Year of Publication: 2024
Abstract:The study highlights the prevalence of bisphenol analogues (BPA & BPS) in thermal papers collected from food eateries, metro stations, ATMs, grocery stores, and suppliers on e-commerce platforms.  The study found bisphenol analogs in all the samples in range from 3.63 ppm (or mg/kg) to 17400 ppm (or mg/kg). The highest concentration of BPA was reported in samples collected from food eateries. Although in 2021 Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) had released a standard IS 17568:2021 ‘Thermal Paper- Specification that prohibited BPA use in thermal papers but it’s a voluntary standard. Considering the serious health and environmental concerns from BPA, there is a need for a stricter monitoring system and a mandatory standard for BPA in products as a preventive measure to protect human health.
