In the absence of any recycling or recovery systems from the manufacturers, the batteries eventually land up in the municipal waste stream. Their heavy metal content slowly leaches and poisons our ground water. What can the industry do about this hazard? What should citizens do about their batteries? This factsheet explores various facets of this problem.
