Toxics Link, in its endeavour to generate and foster awareness initiated an awareness generation campaign and e-waste collection drive in academic institutions and residential complexes during Durga Puja. Many innovative ideas like installing e-waste recycling bins, banners carrying public awareness messages, drawing and poster competitions on the issues of environment and e-waste were also organized for children at various puja pandals, (Shib Mandir Sarbojonin DurgoutsabSamity, Singhi Park Durga Puja Committee, Dum Dum Park Tarun Daletc) across the city. The campaign, besides adding a different hue to the occasion helped in generating awareness among a large number of devotees and visitors thronging the pandals.

The initiatives undertaken by Toxics Link also motivated some of the residents in housing complexes like the Panchawati Building (Chakraberia) to commence their own program and conduct a collection drive within their building premises, About 80 kgs of e-waste was collect which was then sent to an authorized recycler for safe disposal & recycling.

E-waste collection drive cum sensitization programmes were also organized in academic institutions like Marine Engineering & Research Institute, Netaji Nagar Women’s College, St. Paul’s Cathedral Mission College and Asutosh College. Around 250 people including students, teachers & staff members were reached and 11 kgs of e-waste was collected through these events. Another such collection drive has been planned in Uttaran Housing Cooperative Society under Anupama Housing Complex (VIP Road near Haldiram’s stoppage).
