HHP survey report

Title: HHP survey report
Publication Type: Research Reports
Year of Publication: 2023
Abstract:Toxics Link has conducted a survey among the farmers in twelve states to identify the knowledge gaps in relation to the use of HHPs in India. The study also aims to find out the prevalence of HHP use in India and whether a phased ban or additional farmer education is required to protect from the adverse effects of HHPs. Cotton, sugarcane and chilli growing regions were targeted as these crops account for a lot of HHP use. Regions growing staples like paddy and wheat were also visited to understand the HHP-dependence of food crops, which might have a bearing on India’s food security. Discussions were conducted with pesticide dealers, members of local government and agricultural experts, including agricultural entomologists, to build a qualitative understanding of local pesticide-use practices.
