Burning of e-waste
1989. SHRI AKHILESH PRASAD SINGH:

Will the Minister of ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE be pleased to state:
(a) whether it is a fact that there is rampant burning of e-waste at Loni in Uttar Pradesh near Delhi border for last so many years;
(b) if so, the details in this regards;
(c) whether any case of violation of environmental norms has been reported from that area;
(d) whether any checks have been conducted by the Pollution Authorities; and
(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (e) As per the information received from Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board(UPPCB), there are no major air polluting industries in area of Loni, Ghaziabad. However, illegal burning of e-waste is reported at places in Loni residential area which is close to Delhi border. Actions taken in this regard are as under:
• Chief Secretary U.P. Administration has issued order dated 10.11.2003 in compliance of order of Hon’ble High Court, Allahabad in Writ Petition 34857/2003 Smt. Mithilesh Singh versus State of U.P. and Ors.
• Different Committees have been constituted from time to time by district administration Ghaziabad for taking actions against illegal waste processing/burning units. District Magistrate, Ghaziabad, vide letter dated 25.03.2015 & later dated 12.08.2021 had formed a committee comprising of members of District Administration, Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam, Ghaziabad Development Authority, Police Department, State Pollution Control Board etc. to stop all the commercial and industrial activities in the residential area which are being operated against the designated land use of the place.
• Pursuant to the directions of Hon’ble Supreme Court in matter of Writ Petition (Civil) No. 13029/1985, Secretary, Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Uttar Pradesh directed District Magistrate, Ghaziabad and Commissioner of Police, Ghaziabad vide letter dated 30.11.2023 to take further stringent measures and ensure that no such incidences occur
