Chemicals in Products

Toxics Link has been specifically researching and working to highlight the adverse impact of chemicals in products on human & environment and to bring significant policy changes at the regional, national and international level. The organization has been constantly engaged in research, information creation, dissemination and policy intervention on issues like mercury in CFLs, lead in paints, heavy metals in toys & jewelry, Phthalates in diapers, BPA in feeding bottles etc.

POPs and Pesticides

Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) are organic chemical substances that are highly toxic and persistent in the environment for a long time. They bioaccumulate through the food chain and can cause adverse effects on human health and the environment. The world community recognized the need to eliminate POPs and thus, in its attempt to address this pervasive global issue, signed the Stockholm Convention in 2001. Many of the pesticides are POPs and are no longer used for agricultural purposes but a few continue to be used in developing countries.

Circularity in Waste

The quantum of waste generated in India is exponential; the current model of cradle to the grave is unsustainable and needs to be updated to a circular one. It’s crucial that we close this loop. To achieve this, our interventions focus on strategies of minimization, efficient resource recovery and pollution prevention- basically moving towards sustainable and responsible consumption.

Toxics Free Health Care

Health care facilities are meant to reduce health problems but in the course of providing the service, it inevitably creates waste. Healthcare waste has a high potential for infection and injury and if not appropriately managed, has the potential to pollute the environment and put public health at risk. Toxics Link has been working towards making the healthcare systems safer and sustainable.
