“Menstrual Products & their disposal” is an attempt to understanding the potentially complex interaction of various health & environmental health issues arising from menstrual waste. The report involves findings from a national survey among females across all reproductive age groups on the menstrual management products being commonly used, the disposal patterns adopted, awareness on menstrual waste impacts on health & environment, their views on shifting to healthier, environment friendly products and the barriers associated with it.

The report also contains findings of our interaction with various waste workers and their knowledge, awareness and existing practises on dealing with menstrual waste emerging from households and commercial spaces.

Through this report, we have tried to highlight environmental and human health concerns related with commercially available sanitary products and their unsound disposal. We also aim to start a conversation about the emerging concerns of toxics pollutants from sanitary waste incinerators as well as the mounting plastic pollution resulting from various menstrual products.
