Mercury is one of the significant environmental offenders closely associated with health care industry. It is mostly found in health care products in its elemental form as a liquid metal. In a typical health care setting mercury can be found in thermometers, blood pressure devices, dilation and feeding tubes, batteries and fluorescent lamps. Mercury can also be found in cleaning agents and fixatives for laboratory work. If mercury from health care is discarded as waste, it eventually makes its way into the environment, where it bio-accumulates in the food supply, negatively impacting human and environmental health.
Consequently, Toxics Link is organizing diligently mercury campaign to raise awareness about mercury toxicity and reduce mercury pollution.
