Utilisation of Waste
Will the Minister of URBAN DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state:-
(a) whether waste water and waste discharged from the habitations of urban areas into the nearly rivers is likely to be stopped and this water is likely to be processed to be used for irrigation and fertilizers under the Swacchta Campaign being run in the country;
(b) if so, the fact in this regard; and
(c) the number of habitations in the urban areas in the country in which the above said system is being made operational?

(a) to (c) :Urban Development is a State subject. The Ministry of Urban Development supports the States in their urban development efforts through Schemes and Programmes. The Ministry is implementing the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) with a focus on strengthening the urban infrastructure in the Mission cities. Sewerage and septage management is one of the components of this Mission. Under this component, projects related to treatment of wastewater of habitations before being discharged into the rivers and other water bodies can be taken up by the concerned States. The Mission is also promoting recycling of wastewater and its reuse for beneficial purposes. Under the Mission the respective State Governments select the projects to be implemented; prepare, appraise and approve the Detailed Project Reports and implement the projects.
