Abstract:On 28th of February, 2012 Toxics Link, New Delhi, organized a national conference on toxic chemicals management at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The conference was one of the first efforts of its kind in India to bring a range of scientists, experts and stakeholders from across the nation (and even international participants) to deliberate on the crucial issue of public health. While the focus was broadly on the Persistent Organic Pollutants and the Stockholm Convention, the key objective of the meeting was to delve into larger issues of toxin management, societal risk assessment and find ways to address issues of human health and environment at large. The other objectives of the conference were to: * Initiating dialogue process on toxic chemicals management with key stakeholders and delve upon challenges/ opportunities; * Deliberate on some of the outstanding issue in chemicals management – stockpiles, obsolete substances, emission management, financing etc; * Setting agenda for addressing newer toxins / POPs; * Critically ponder over some of the alternative paradigm of development and growth. We are now ready with the conference report that details out what transpired during the one day conference. Toxics Link welcome comments and reactions on the report.
