Publication Type: Research Reports
Year of Publication: 2019
Abstract:Dicofol was one of the highly used miticides across the globe. However, after the health and environmental impacts of the chemical came into the limelight, countries have started phasing it out. India is perhaps the only country in the world which has been using Dicofol until recently when it made an announcement to stop the production of the chemical in the Stockholm convention. In this context this study was an attempt to get an overview on the present usage of Dicofol among the farmers. The statistics indicated that the use of the chemical is not uniform across the country. In some places like Darjeeling and Nashik we found that Dicofol is popular due to its use on tea and grapes respectively. However, the study also shows that the farmers have stopped its use on cotton in places like Bhatinda and Rajkot. Moreover, it was also found that the farmers are adopting other alternatives instead of Dicofol which are widely available across the country.
