Traveling Quotes from the Earth 2009
A traveling film festival on the environment

Shantiniketan

The Quotes From The Earth, environmental film festival from Toxics Link travelled to School of Environmental Studies, Vishva Bharati, Santiniketan on 2nd and 3rd February 2009.

The festival focused on themes of Hunger, Water and Survival, Climate change, Energy efficiency and sustainable development got a warm welcome at Santiniketan and over 350 students from schools and the university attended the screening. Altogether 14 films were screened. Professor P. Mandal of Mathematics department inaugurated the festival. A panel discussion was organised on the closing day. The panelists were Prof. Dikshit Sinha, Prof. Onkarnath, and Mrs. Manju Soren. The festival ignited a passion for environment among the students and they want to host their own festival annually in future. Flyers, posters and information materials were distributed to the participants.

Chennai

The Quotes From The Earth, environmental film festival from Toxics Link travelled to Chennai at Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board Auditorium on 18th and 19th April 2009.

The festival started at 10 in the morning and ended at 6 in the evening. The film festival was inaugurated by Mr. Frederick.J Kaplan CVonsul of Public Affairs of US Consulate general Office Chennai. The other guests of Honour are Prof Dr. Shankar HoD Bharathidasan University, Prof N. Shankar form Ramachandra Medical university, Mr BK Rao – CEO of Eco technologies and Dr. Karthikeyan from TNPCB. There were 114 participants altogether. And the news was in the media both pre and post screening.

Leh

The Quotes From The Earth, environmental film festival from Toxics Link travelled to Leh at District Auditorium 27th and 28th May 2009. The festival was hosted by Toxics Link in association with State Polution Control Board J&K and Forest Dept. J&K.

The two day festival was inaugurated by Dr. B. Balaji IFS, DFO, Leh Forest Division. The two day festival screened 16 films on environment. 440 students representing 22 different schools of Leh and teachers attended the film festival. Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh, Mr. Tsering Dorjey concluded the festival and emphasised the importance of greater environmental awareness to protect the Himalayan regions of India.
