Clean Industry

Developing countries like India have been under increasing pressure to adopt rapid industrial development processes to meet the immediate demands of their teeming population. But a shortcoming in this development process and lack of environmental foresight has led to massive ecological destruction over the last few decades. This appears even worse when we consider that there are technologies available that can help maintain industrial development at a sustainable level.

Given this challenging scenario, the Clean Industry Programme focusses on promotion of clean and sustainable production processes, engagement at the policy and advocacy level with the government; acting as a watchdog to highlight gross violations of environmental norms by industry; identify and promote use of alternative and clean technologies, products and processes; and support grassroots networks to facilitate their struggle against industrial pollution.

Toxics Link has been actively engaged with the Government of India at various levels in promoting better and cleaner hazardous waste management practices. Toxics Link has also been part of various national and global networks, working on sustainable industrial development, promoting the ban on imports and usage of several hazardous substances like asbestos and mercury.
