Biomedical waste being dumped in the open

Sirsa, July 15, 2012: Rules regarding the management of bio-medical waste are being given the go-by by the authorities in Sirsa’s General Hospital. Used intravenous sets, syringes and other biomedical waste were found dumped in the open with normal waste in the hospital on Saturday.

Panel set up to monitor bio-medical waste management

Chandigarh, June 19, 2012: A district-level committee to monitor bio-medical waste management has been constituted in Sirsa district under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner. The members of the committee included all Sub Divisional Magistrates, Civil Surgeon, Regional Officer of Pollution Control Board, executive officers and secretaries of municipal bodies.

Pollution board slaps notice on GMC over bio-medical waste

Panjim, June 8, 2012: The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has issued a show cause notice to the Dean and Medical Superintendent of the Goa Medical College and Hospital on June 6, for operating the health-care establishment in a manner that amounts to gross violation of the Biomedical Waste Rules and the Environment (Protection) Act.

Rights panel seeks report on dumping of bio waste

Chennai, May 23, 2012: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has ordered the Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine and the Director of Medical and Rural Health Services, Chennai, to enquire into and send a report about the alleged dumping of bio waste on the main road at Tiruvallur.
