Mercury phase-out meet held
Imphal, July 25, 2012: The Rural Health Organisation (RHO), Naoremthong organised a State level meeting for the stackholders from health care sectors of the State on the topic, Mercury free initiative in health care sectors in Manipur' at Hotel Tampha today.
The meeting was conducted under the sponsorship of Environmental Equity and Justice Partnership (EEJP), New Delhi and in collaboration with Toxics Link, New Delhi, Manipur Pollution Control Board, Chief Medical Officer, Imphal West and District Family Welfare Officer, Imphal West.
The meeting was chaired by Toxics Link Senior Programme Officer Kankana Das, Imphal West Chief Medical Officer Dr S Bimolakumari Devi, District Family Welfare Officer Imphal West Dr Usha Kh and RHO General Secretary Dr H Indramani Singh.
Speaking at the meeting Kankana Das stressed on the need for issuing a regulation by the concerned regulatory authority on mercury phase out from the health care sectors in Manipur.
Echoing the same view, Imphal West Chief Medical Officer Dr Bimolakumari Devi pointed out to substitute mercury with the alternatives available.
The meeting resolved to hold deliberations with the concerned regulatory authority for issuing an order on mercury phase out in healthcare sector and initiate phasing out mercury from health care sectors by hospital authorities, said a press release.
